Ensure regular maintenance schedules

Regular maintenance reduces running costs

Making sure that your vehicles are roadworthy is a legal requirement.

Regular and correct maintenance also ensures the effective running of your fleet, and reduced costs over the full life of each vehicle.

It is your responsibility to ensure that maintenance and repairs are scheduled and carried out to an acceptable standard. Vehicles should be serviced as regularly as manufacturers recommend.

Figures from the Health & Safety Executive suggest mechanical faults are a factor in 7.5% of crashes involving ‘at work’ vehicles.

Remember an MOT certificate only checks for basic defects and does not guarantee the safety of a vehicle.

Put your drivers to good use by providing them with a list of basic safety checks to sign off for their vehicles.

Fluid and oil levels should be inspected on a regular basis.

Wiper blades should be checked for wear or splitting, and drivers should keep an eye on the condition of brake pads and the battery.
