The Highways Agency’s Traffic Radio station now broadcasts live 24/7 from the National Traffic Control Centre in Birmingham.

Traffic Radio gives drivers the latest information about conditions on motorways and major A-roads in England. It also broadcasts details of emergency incidents, roadworks and safety-related advice.

Reports are updated every 10 minutes at busy times. Listeners also receive regional traffic news based on their location.

Traffic Radio is available on DAB digital radio and online at www.trafficradio.org.uk.

The station’s revamp is timely because more than 70% of UK companies say congestion is making business journeys less effective, according to a recent report by Europcar.

Now, drivers can hope to avoid congested areas by checking Traffic Radio before setting off. Those with DAB digital radio in their car can keep up with changing conditions during their journey. Drivers with mobile phone internet access can get updates when they take a break.

The Highways Agency is now looking to extend Traffic Radio to include Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
