Audi A6 and A7 models gain biturbo TDI diesel engine
NECK braces to the ready!
This sounds like a bit of alright: a performance diesel engine for Audi’s elegant A6 Saloon and Avant estate, as well as the Sportback A7 model.
How much performance? The new biturbo TDI V6 diesel engine gives you 313PS under your right foot – that’s not far off the 340PS in an Audi TT RS! – which can blast you up the road to 62mph in just 5.1 seconds. But all with Audi’s restrained elegance.
But there’s more: there’s a thumping, horizon-reducing 650Nm of torque: so put your foot down at any speed…and feel the forward surge.
And you get all this performance plus over 44mpg fuel economy. It sounds like a performance car without the fuel penalty.
Well, almost without any penalty.
If the standard Audi four-cylinder TDI engine delivers CO2 emissions of 129g/km and a company car tax band of 19% for the 2012/13 tax year, the biturbo V6 diesel pays for some of that performance with 169g/km CO2 and a company car tax band of 27% for 2012/13.
The V6 biturbo is also going so fast it breaks the 160g/km barrier for capital allowances and leasing breaks.
Still, it will always sound brilliant. An exhaust-mounted sound actuator delivers a most undiesel soundtrack that will have you wanting to access all of that neck-snapping 650Nm shove-in-the-back torque.
The new BiTDI engine will be available in the Audi A6 Saloon, A6 Avant and A7 Sportback ranges in SE and S line trim. The soon to be available A6 allroad quattro will also be available with the biturbo diesel.
Specification includes satellite navigation with 6.5-inch retractable colour monitor, Milano leather, Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system controlling throttle response, transmission shift points and steering feel, Audi’s parking system plus to make light of tight squeezes, light and rain sensors, cruise control and keyless go push-button engine ignition.
