VAUXHALL has reduced the cost of its Ampera range extender model by £3500.
The Vauxhall Ampera now has a starting price of £28,750 on-the-road, inclusive of the Government’s £5000 grant.
Ampera’s new price brings the cost of electric motoring much nearer to that of a conventional vehicle
Company car drivers, though, should be aware that the P11D value for company car tax purposes will be exclusive of government grant.
“Ampera’s new price position brings the cost of electric motoring much nearer to that of a conventional vehicle,” said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall chairman and managing director.
“It also reinforces the multi award-winning Ampera’s position as the only solution to electric vehicle ownership that can be the sole family car.”
The Vauxhall Ampera can be driven in battery only mode for some 25-50 miles.
Once the battery is depleted, a small range-extending generator, powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine, intervenes to provide a further 300-plus mile range, which overcomes the key lack of range issues for electric cars. The battery is always used to drive the Ampera’s wheels.
The Vauxhall Ampera has a company car tax band of 5%.
