What’s not?
- The new Corsa might have been on sale for just over a year, but compared to rivals we think the same again styling is disappointing. Looking like a mix of the old and new, in particular we’re not fans of the lower Adam-like nose.
- Vauxhall is known for its high-value pricing, but almost £16,000 for our four-door SRi test car seems a lot when compared to rivals.
- We’re sure the five-speed transmission has been fitted for emissions purposes, but a six-speeder would improve motorway refinement.
- Vauxhall claims 85.6mpg, but despite long motorway trips during our time with the car, we couldn’t even get close to that.
The Verdict
In diesel form, the latest Corsa is definitely worth serious consideration alongside rivals such as the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. However, although the economy and CO2 are brilliant at 85.6mpg and 87g/km respectively, if you’re keen on driving thrills, the more expensive and dirtier Ford Fiesta would still be our choice.
However despite the strong £15,800 price, this SRi trim model undoubtedly offers a lot for the 20 per cent tax payer at around £40 a month – an astonishingly low amount for such an efficient car.
