Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer SE 2.0 CDTi 160PS
VAUXHALL has continued to expand its Insignia model range with an estate version called the Sports Tourer. With rakish looks and niceties such as a powered tailgate, what’s the Insignia Sports Tourer like for business? Here’s our test of the key 160PS diesel SE version.
What is it?
JOINING the saloon and hatchback versions of the Vauxhall Insignia early in 2010 was the third model in the range – the Sports Tourer estate. This is the 2.0-litre diesel with the 160PS engine in SE specification. Priced at £25,390.
What’s hot?
- Those rakish looks with that tapering rear roofline
- Powered rear tailgate can be programmed for specific raised height
- Plush feel to the interior
- Diesel engine has good, strong response …
- …while brakes are nicely progressive too
- Steering is sharp and accurate
- Decent 47.1mpg economy
- 17 inch alloy wheels
- Standard electronic handbrake, rain sensitive wipers, electric windows
What’s not?
- Boot not as capacious as it looks from the outside
- Noise and vibration from diesel engine
- Too much visual clutter on the dashboard
Business Car Manager verdict
The Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer is a very smart-looking estate car. With 540-litre luggage space it offers decent capacity in an attractive shape, rather than outright load carrying ability. The Mondeo estate is the better all-round drive and can carry more load – but the Insignia Sports Tourer is significantly appealing to make it a an attractive business car proposition.
