The Vauxhall Viva first appeared back in the 60s and was a firm favourite

THE historic Viva badge is back on the boot of a Vauxhall and its new Hyundai i10 rival will be on sale early this summer with prices starting at £7,995.

According to a Vauxhall spokesperson, the new Viva is a ‘much more simple offering than the Corsa, with just two trim levels and big car features including ESP and traction control as standard’.

Outside, the Viva looks every bit the scaled-down Corsa

The Viva will only be offered with a 75PS non-turbo version of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that recently debuted in the new Corsa, boasting 99g/km emissions and 66mpg fuel figures.

Outside, the Viva looks every bit the scaled-down Corsa, with the same swept-back headlights and family grille. The rear is the same, with biggest visual highlight being the sharp creases down the side and that high shoulder line that rises as it heads to the back.

Inside, considering the Viva’s below Corsa range positioning, the interior design is in our opinion more stylish than its big brother. For instance, we particularly like the way the dashboard integrates the IntelliLink infotainment system. There’s also plenty of head and legroom for four people to be comfortable inside the Viva.
The original Viva, on sale between 1963 and 1979 was one of Vauxhall’s most memorable cars. Will the new car be able to eclipse its popularity?
