What’s not?
- Refined when warmed through, the 2.0-litre TDI can feel a bit gruff first thing in the morning.
- Although cheaper than other German rivals, such as the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class, the Passat is more expensive than mainstream rivals such as the Ford Mondeo. Our test car listed at an eye-watering £31,270 with options!
Verdict
I’ve yet to drive the new Ford Mondeo, but I reckon as a business car package it will run the new Passat very close.
So why should you go for the Volkswagen?
Well, on top of the attractive looks, the Passat’s build quality is impressive. Then there’s that punchy 2.0-litre diesel, whose low C02 figures should keep company car tax bills modest, making leasing costs competitive.
Plus, with the SE Business trim including relevant standard kit, such as the Discover sat-nav, it’s hard to fault the overall package for business users.
Expect the motorways of the UK to be flooded with new Passat over the coming months…
