Volvo S80 DRIVe: lower company car tax

BUSINESS car drivers can now specify a premium saloon or estate car, and yet only pay benefit-in-kind company car tax at the rate of 13%.

Volvo’s range of DRIVe models – which feature low emissions and low fuel consumption – have been added to by the introduction of the Volvo S80 DRIVe saloon and the Volvo V70 DRIVe estate.

Both cars emit 119g/km CO2 and can drive as far a 62.8 miles on a single gallon of diesel fuel. Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax) is just £35 a year.

Delivering 109bhp and 240Nm of torque, the modified 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine in both the S80 and V70 provides improved fuel economy by 5.1mpg to 62.8mpg, increasing both cars’ potential range to nearly 1100 miles.

“Volvo believes these two new cars offer the best environmental performance in their respective classes. Both the S80 and V70 provide lower benefit-in-kind tax bills for company motorists and fuel savings – 60 litres per annum – equivalent to receiving a free tank of fuel each year,” commented John Wallace, Volvo’s national corporate strategy and development manager.

“Like all DRIVe models, drivers do not have to compromise on high levels of comfort and specification,” continued Mr Wallace. “Both models are available to order in SE, SE Premium, SE Lux and SE Lux Premium trim levels.”

The only vehicles to come close to the Volvo S80 on emissions are the following – but none is in the large premium executive class, and none is a capacious estate:

  • Volkswagen Passat 1.6 S D BlueMotion TDI CR 118g/km
  • BMW 316d ES 118g/km
  • Audi A4 2.0 TDIe 136 120g/km

The new Volvo DRIVe S80 and V70 cars can be ordered now before going on sale in March, when prices will be announced.
