The best summer weather since 2006 has had a predictable affect on convertible prices which have hung on longer than might have been expected before the summer. And with the August forecasts looking good, values are likely to behave better than predicted.
Nevertheless, relative strength now normally means more pain later, so timing will be crucial; sooner or later, convertible values will drop.
‘Fleet fodder’ is a term often heard in auction halls. It applies to high volume models (though still from prestige manufacturers) and in spite of expanding product portfolios, they still form a big part of sales. On re-sale, these values struggle more than the norm because supply is plentiful. The Audi A4 , BMW 3 series and Mercedes C Class 2.0tdi SE and “Sport” models are the usual suspects, but recently they’ve been joined by the A3 1.6Tdi Sport with a very high number of 12/62 plates on offer. Worth noting…
Finally, while the list price of the Range Rover Evoque Coupe (3dr) may be £1000 more than a 5dr, on the used market this less practical version is usually worth less. Settle for parity if you’re selling.
