Auction experts BCA says some businesses are putting profits in the tip.
By not ridding vans of waste.
Since October, regulations for landfill means waste has to be separated.
But some businesses are leaving it up to BCA. Rather than preparing the van properly for sale.
Legislation and corporate responsibility issues mean businesses must be aware of vehicle condition,” commented Simon Henstock, small business specialist, BCA.
We are seeing instances where batteries, concrete, building rubble, rubber tyres and wood are left in vehicles. The costs of disposals can range from £75 for a small load to upwards of £250 for large loads.
For hazardous waste the costs can escalate again as they have to be handled and disposed of according to strict Health & Safety guidelines.”
BCA advises businesses to do the following:
- Establish procedures to identify potential waste violations at the end of a vehicles working life
- Inspect vehicles prior to remarketing
By sending vehicles full of waste‚ effectively in unsaleable condition‚ some businesses are incurring waste disposal costs and delays that could be avoided concluded Henstock.
It is vital for owners and operators to make sure these costs are minimised. And keep up to date with this legislation.
