Knowing what’s important

TOOK the tram up to the show halls this morning. It’s such an efficient way to travel around a city.

And, with a deep breath, took on the Frankfurt Motor Show again.

To my delight I stumbled across this: a mid-engined sports car, by a specialist maker, with their priorities all in the right place: a case of beer in the boot to demonstrate the carrying capacity.

The car in question was a Melkus 2000. Made by an east German family concern, their engineering expertise – and the founder’s ability at the wheel of racing cars – obscured by years of the Berlin Wall. It’s a really neat mid-engined sports car. And obviously made by a family concern with some soul.
