374 – Fine day for a drive

Share

17 January 2010

I KNOW I had other things to do today. But who could resist it? I had here a Lexus convertible – a 250 C – all ready and waiting, and the weather to go with it.

Yes, yes, there were the inevitable jobs to do around the house; and yes, yes, yes I should have done some other work, too. But…

…But it’s a long time since we’ve had sunshine like this. And a long time since I’ve driven anything as decadent as this Lexus convertible.

So I grabbed my son, Matt, and daughter, Sarah, and went for a drive, hood down, music on – fab!

The Lexus really is some car. Beautifully made, there’s a 2.5-litre V6 under the bonnet with an auto box. Changes slip by imperceptibly. It’s all creamy smooth.

There’s a decent boot too. But only with the roof up. When you want to drive with the roof down, first you need to pull out a plastic guard in the boot, which reduces the boot space to…errr…not very much – as you can see in the pictures. A button then does the opening and closing bit for you automatically.

And very sleek it looks with the roof down, even if the lack of the roof introduces some shake into the body. But hey! Who cares?

It was a sunny but cold day. We had the heated seats turned up (they can provide cool air, too, in summer), the ventilation on full hot, the wind in our hair, music on.

How lucky. What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Lexus convertible proves ideal on a sunny Sunday
