The benefits of running a car powered by hydrogen are obvious when you look at the emissions – which are just pure water.

Then there’s the 369 miles between fill ups – good considering hydrogen fill up points in the UK are still quite rare – although this is changing all the time, the most recent being the first supermarket hydrogen station in north London. Shame, because this Hyundai is as easy to fill up as an LPG-converted car.

The ix35 is also great fun to drive, as the electric motor is very responsive and instead of having to be plugged in for several hours to refill the battery of an electric car, the Hyundai can be refilled in the same time you’d fill up a standard petrol or diesel car.
