Audi Q7 3.0 TDI quattro

What’s not?

  • Sadly, the new engine requires AdBlue [link] to meet Euro 6 emission control and, while commercial drivers may be used to this, it’s still a pain to have to keep topped up when other manufacturers can meet the emission limits without the additive.
  • It’s still a big SUV and will suffer some body roll on fast bends and those who don’t need the ground-clearance would be better off with an estate bodied 4×4.
  • While fun, the full-power engine feels a bit of a waste on this kind of vehicle so the cost conscious may want to wait until the lower powered 218PS model arrives in October boasting even better economy at 52.3mpg and 144g/km of C02 while still managing the 0-62mph sprint in 7.4secs.
  • It’s all too easy to get carried away with the optional extras where Audi load up prices for its technology. One of the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI quattro review cars we drove had an extras price list of more than £20k on top of what is still a premium on the road price of more than £50k.

The Verdict on the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI quattro…

Audi has taken its time upgrading the old Q7 to meet fierce competition in the premium end of the SUV market and that’s been time well spent.

It’s a hugely better car than the old model feeling much lighter and more nimble while boasting noticeably more interior space for all the passengers save for the seats of the unruly brats you’ll banish to the third row.

The only question company car users need to ask themselves is whether they need all that power and whether it’s worth waiting until autumn for an even more BIK friendly version to be ready just in time for the worst a UK winter can throw at it?
