VOLKWAGEN’S big off-roader, the Touareg, gets an all new model which goes on sale from £38,225 for the SE 3.0-litre TDI 240 PS – a marginal uplift on the price of the previous Touareg.

Ordering has opened for the SUV, which goes on sale in October. For the first time the range includes a Hybrid model (193g/km CO2) at £54,995.

For small businesses that need a towing requirement, the Touareg has been a popular choice: the range starts with a new 3.0 TDI model, replacing the old 2.5, with 240PS power and, importantly, 550Nm of pulling power.

However, CO2 emissions for the two diesels – the 3.0 and 4.2 V8 – remain high at 195g/km (3.0) and 239g/km (4.2) which means corporation tax write down allowances are just 10% per annum for each car.

The new Touareg is 40mm longer than the outgoing model for additional interior space, while weight-saving measures have saved 200kg. A number of economy enhancing features, including brake energy recovery and start/stop, boost efficiency by up to 20%.

All new Touareg models feature a new eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox.

Standard equipment on the four ranges – SE, Altitude, Escape and Hybrid – includes leather trim, touchscreen satellite navigation with DAB radio, six airbags, burr walnut interior trim, climate control and four-wheel drive transmission.
