Pilot Assist works by giving gentle steering inputs to keep the car within lane markings up to motorway speeds of around 80 mph (130 km/h) and no longer needs to follow another car. Pilot Assist is a step towards full autonomous drive – a key innovation area that Volvo is working on.
Like the new XC90 before it, the S90 will be offered with the clean and powerful T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain, which delivers up to 410hp and offers three different modes – Pure, Hybrid and Power.
Finally Volvo are promising the S90 will have class-leading drivability, having benefitted from Volvo Cars’ recent investment in a highly advanced chassis simulator.
“The S90 has taken a big stride forwards in terms of driving dynamics, performance and ride. We have completely redesigned the Volvo driving experience from the ground up to deliver a sense of precision, engaging control and comfort,” says Dr Peter Mertens, senior vice president, research and development at Volvo Car Group.
