ENGLAND’S women’s hockey team won the UniBet EuroHockey Championships for the first time in 14 years, defeating the Netherlands 3-1 on penalties to claim victory on home soil.

Georgie Twigg, who is currently sponsored by Concept Vehicle Leasing and Surrey Independent Insurance to support her bid for the 2016 Olympic Games, accidentally broke the trophy during a photo session after the match! Despite this, all of her team members seemed to see the funny side.

Two years ago, the GB Hockey team lost out on gold after a shoot-out defeat to Germany; in addition, their effort to go one better at the Olympic Park didn’t start well when they fell 2-0 behind after a quick double from Caia van Maasakker’s.

Later efforts from Lily Owsley and Sophie Bray resulted in a final shoot-out where goalkeeper Maddie Hinch saved three penalties and England claimed glory against a country that had previously won eight of the previous 10 EuroHockey Championships.

2013 winners Germany settled for the bronze medal with a 5-1 win over Spain, and Scotland avoided relegation due to its 2-0 win over Poland.

“What a terrific result by Team GB and Georgie Twigg on Sunday. Our congratulations go to Georgie and the team on winning the European Championships,” commented Paul Bulloch, managing director of Concept Vehicle Leasing.

“Georgie is on fantastic form at the moment, and this certainly bodes well as she continues her journey on ‘The Road to Rio 2016’.  We’re delighted to play a small part in something so successful are excited about what next year may hold.”
