Fleet management firm names top ten low emissions company cars

VW’s Golf tops the pile in a revealing top ten just published by Fleet Alliance, a fleet management and finance business. Fleet Alliance calculated average CO2 emissions for all the cars it sold and placed German models in 7 out of the 10 top slots.

Fleet Alliance has seen a drop in CO2 emissions of 4% over the past 12 months, with its average now standing at 125g/km. Last year’s figure stood at 130g/km, while the UK average was just over 138g/km.

The benefits of choosing low emission company cars are becoming increasingly clear for SME customers.

By leasing low emission company cars, business users can cut their annual company tax bills significantly – while SMEs benefit thanks to reduced National Insurance contributions on the driver’s benefit in kind, and lower expenditure on fuel spend.

Fleet Alliance has been gradually educating consumers on the potential paybacks.

Fleet Alliance managing director, Martin Brown, said: “Our clients have clearly been heeding our advice to switch to green alternatives for their new vehicles in the light of current and forthcoming tax legislation. And they are seeing the more immediate benefits of reduced tax and fuel costs.

“While we are not surprised to see German makes dominating our top 10 clean list, the presence of prestige manufacturers like Mercedes and BMW shows what great strides they have made in bringing out models that are entirely suitable for today’s emissions-led company car market,” he said.
