What’s not?

  • Even without the options, this Galaxy lists at over £30,000, which is a lot and some of the interior trim just doesn’t feel up to the price.
  • The Galaxy follows the S-Max and the new Mondeo before it, in offering instruments that are a mixture of analogue and LCD, which are hard to read in our opinion!
  • The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel is good to hold, but is overcomplicated with too many small, poorly marked buttons.

The Verdict for the Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCi 180 Titanium

Ford sold more Galaxys than SEAT and Volkswagen did with the Alhambra and Sharan in 2014 – can it do it again with the all-new model? Yes, as this version of the big Ford MPV is even bigger, even more practical and even more capable than the outgoing model.

However, is it good enough to topple the other big MPV favourite – the recently facelifted SEAT Alhambra?

The Alhambra SE Lux 2.0 TDi 150PS, is probably this Galaxy’s closest foe. The SEAT gets off to a good start by being over £2,000 cheaper, but it has higher 132g/km CO2 emissions and higher 24% company car tax band versus the 129g/km and 23% of the Ford.

So while the Ford might be more expensive to buy, it will be cheaper to run in the longer term.
