Ford Mustang 2.3 Ecoboost convertible
The Mustang has plenty of space upfront but the rear seats are only good for children in reality

What’s not?

  • This Mustang might be fun to drive, but even despite Ford’s best efforts, without the roof some body shimmy can be felt through the steering and things get decidedly floaty, as you press on down tight country roads.
  • The Mustang’s cabin gets quite blowy and noisy at around the national speed limit and there’s lots of wind noise around the wing mirrors.
  • The six-speed manual might be slick, but it’s not as quick as you might expect considering the performance – go quick and you’re met with some noticeable drivetrain shunt.
  • We feel the Mustang’s steering could do with a bit more precision as standard, although we’d be the first to admit that it’s much improved in Sport mode.
  • Yes, the Mustang’s interior feels special, but some of the plastic finishes lower down the dashboard and around the door handles, don’t feel in-line with the £33,000 price.
  • The power folding roof folds quickly and remains impressively quiet – even at high speed. Shame it has to be manually latched.
  • Ford has done a lot of work tuning the acoustics in the Mustang Ecoboost for European ears. However this engine still lacks the aural excitement of the V8, but the tone noticeably improves in Sport mode where it deepens.
