There's nothing quite like the VW Golf GTI Cabriolet with the hood down on a sunny day with that responsive and creamy engine up front

Business Car Manager road test verdict

For some, the style and GTI badge will be enough. Overlook the relatively high price and running costs (by Golf standards), the Golf GTI Cabriolet is a car with bags of street appeal. The car exudes quality, has speed and performance to spare, offers four-seat practicality and one of the best-engineered powered soft tops in the business.

However, the GTI is an undoubted extravagance compared to other versions in the range – and business car leasing prices are on the steep side. It will also inevitably face a degree of in-house competition from the Eos. Body flex also seems more of an issue with the GTI versus lower models.

But on a good road on a sunny day, top down, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet is a desirable car to be in. We’d also recommend spending extra for the DSG box version. Like the car itself, it’s a class act.
