Well, nothing like a bit of belts and braces…
Another piece of design by the Hyundai engineers also came in helpful: reversing the Santa Fe off the ramp, at an angle to miss a wall, is never easy but made much better by the reversing camera. And some cautious manoeuvring (with the help of the beeping reversing sensors). I made it out without a scratch.

In fact, the Hyundai is full of judicious design points that make driving one such a pleasure. The central console has a deep bin but it also has a compartmentalised tray (useful for keys, phone) that doesn’t go the full depth of the bin. It means you can reach down into the depths of the bin without having to take the tray out first.
It’s a little thing, but it makes you appreciate the thought that has gone into the car. I’ve already spoken about the keyless entry and the brilliant way the door handle is backlit at night as you approach the car. I love that welcoming touch, especially on a cold, dark night.
