The Hyundai Santa Fe is also immensely practical. This is the seven seater version for when you need to take additional younger children; or you can opt for more boot storage space by folding them down.

I feel she needs crampons and rope to climb in each time

And then there’s the driving experience. It’s a grand one, perched above the traffic, humming quietly along. And on long journeys I regularly see 40mpg plus. So, despite its size, the Hyundai Santa Fe is not spiteful on fuel.

One final word on size. It’s not quite so good for my elderly mother, who’s not the tallest. I feel she needs crampons and rope to climb in each time!

But for the rest of us, that high seating position is brilliant. It’s a special car, the Santa Fe; and, as important, makes you feel special driving it.
