LEXUS is squaring up to Audi’s A3 and BMW’s 1-Series with an all-new five-door hatchback called the CT 200h.
The new Lexus hatchback will feature a full hybrid powertrain.
This combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with a battery that can also travel in fully electric (EV) mode for ultra-quiet running, zero fuel consumption and emissions. The Lexus CT 200h can run in EV mode for up to 1.2 miles at speeds up to 28mph.
Drivers have the choice of selectable drive modes: ECO and NORMAL place the emphasis on efficiency and comfort; SPORT focuses on dynamic performance.
Inside, the instrument housing includes large, twin dials; in SPORT mode, the hybrid indicator functions as a rev counter and the ambient lighting turns from blue to red. The two-mode switch ring and a spotlight in the centre cluster also light up in red, changing the whole atmosphere of the cabin.
Lexus says the CT 200h will go on sale later in 2010. No pricing details or CO2 emissions have yet been revealed.
The CT 200h was first shown as a concept car – the LF-Ch – at the Frankfurt Motor Show.NEW upmarket compact hatch from luxury car maker Lexus – the CT 200h – will go on sale later in 2010.
