MOST car enthusiasts will remember MG from back in their heyday, making cars that were affordable and yet offered good performance. Sadly, the company went through a hard time during the recession but now they are back with a vengeance, with their two new models: the MG 3 and the MG 6.

More than an iconic badge

MG has been re-launched with the support of one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, giving MG the backing it needs to compete in the motoring market. Despite now being owned by Chinese companies, these vehicles are still British by both design and engineering.

Both these new models have been designed and engineered in MG’s headquarters, the European Engineering Technical Centre and Design Studio, in Birmingham. With a team of over 300 engineers based here, all the initial concepts, designs and developments for new MG vehicles takes place here.

About the Cars

As mentioned above, there are two MG Flagship models the MG3 and MG6. These are two completely different vehicles – here’s a brief look at each car:

This is MG’s entry into the extremely popular supermini category and it comes in with a very attractive price tag. And that’s not the only area it’s attractive in – the MG3 is a very good looking vehicle and comes in four different models with 10 colour schemes and a huge range of personalisation options. Every model comes with a 105bhp 1.5 litre petrol engine, suspension that’s been tuned precisely for UK roads and a chassis that’s been extensively engineered for fun.

Sporty looks and nippy handling doesn’t detract from the practicality and comfort of the car however. With a 285-litre boot capacity, it has more space than most rival cars in this category and this is increased to 1,262 litres with the split seats down.

Jumping into the mix with the likes of the famed Golf, Astra and Focus, the MG6 is a small fish in a very big pond. However, that hasn’t stopped it from standing out from the crowd thanks to its low starting price and great features, including an economical 148bhp 1.9 litre turbodiesel engine.

Comfortable suspension and a six-speed gearbox help to make the MG6 a real competitor when it comes to distance driving cars. The economic engine offers good fuel consumption at 61mpg combined, it also means you only have £30 road tax to pay per year. Don’t be fooled that this means that the MG6 is not fun to drive, because it is! You can really attack corners and blitz through everything but the harshest potholes without feeling out of your depth.
