Business Car Manager road test verdict
So is the Peugeot 208 the right company car for a young junior executive in an SME business? Well, yes, there’s lots to commend and appeal, including a five star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The three-door 208 genuinely stands out on the road, and the Allure trim provides plenty of goodies in its spec, although you’ll need an additional £400 for the colour touchscreen navigation upgrade with second USB socket.
It is, however, nowhere near as good to drive as some of its rivals, such as the Ford Fiesta.
But will a young company car driver mind? Probably not thanks to the appeal of that colour touchscreen with its range of connected apps, the young zappy appeal of those tinted rear windows and the styling hints of the iconic 205 in the rear three quarter panel.
But where we would caution cheque book before emotion is in the choice of engine.
Drop down to the 1.2 engine and a company car driver will benefit from significantly lower company car tax without sacrificing much in performance. And an SME company will benefit from reduced business car management running costs.
