THE popularity of plug in cars is beginning to grow. By the end of June alone there were 10,000 plug in alternative fuel cars on the road according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders,
Small business that want to take advantage of the low running costs can use something called the Electric Highway.
Formed between green energy company Ecotricity and partner Nissan, the partnership began to roll-out rapid-chargers throughout the Electric Highway in September last year, and there are now over 180 charge points.

That means there are fast-charging points for electric cars in the majority of motorway service stations. By the end of the year, the Electric Highway plans to move from 85% coverage to 100% coverage of the motorway network.

Electric Highway reckons so far it has:
• Provided over 400,000 kWh of free green electricity
• Powered more than 1 million miles of free travel
• Around 800 new members joining each month
