SEAT has announced a powerful mid-range estate model – the Leon ST Cupra 280, which as its name suggests, offers a class-leading power output of 280 PS, paired with a choice of a manual transmission or a self-shifting DSG gearbox.
Owners can enhance the looks and performance of the new car with the ‘Sub8 Performance Pack’
The new estate is almost as quick as the existing hatch model and can scramble from rest to 62 mph in just six seconds flat with DSG and 6.1 seconds with the manual transmission. Considering the ferocity of the performance on tap, though, the Leon ST Cupra 280 is comparatively economical, achieving a combined fuel consumption of 42.8 mpg (DSG) and 42.2 mpg (manual), with CO2 emissions coming in at 154 and 157 g/km respectively.
Owners can enhance the looks and performance of the new car with the ‘Sub8 Performance Pack’. This includes larger Brembo brake callipers, specially-designed nineteen-inch alloys in either black or orange, and body-coloured side skirts. The cost is £2,025. Semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres are also available for £460. That’s on top of the standard Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), front differential lock, progressive steering, CUPRA Drive Profile and standard-fit full-LED headlights.
Externally, the Cupra has a new front end with large air intakes and full-LED headlamps, as well as a rear skirt, two oval end pipes, red brake callipers and tinted side and rear windows. The alloy wheel design is exclusive to the Cupra. Inside, there’s a special sports steering wheel complete with shifting paddles for the optional DSG transmission, as well as sports seats in black Alcantara finished with white stitching. Black leather upholstery will also available.
