Volvo green light tech
We’ve all sworn at traffic lights but Volvo’s ‘Car2Infrastructure’ comms  are a bit more sophisticated

Car2Car and Car2Infrastructure technology

Business Car Manager also got to try this system first-hand, and it’s mightily impressive. Using wi-fi and mobile data transfer the Volvo can ‘talk’ to other vehicles and stationary objects such as traffic lights.

The result is a countdown timer to when a light will turn green, followed by a speed recommendation so you hit the next set of traffic lights just as they go green, too.

You can also have notifications from cars up ahead that the road is slippery, or from emergency vehicles a few hundred metres behind that will need to get past shortly.

It obviously opens up all sorts of possibilities, including cars predicting an accident at a junction before it actually happens and slowing the car to prevent it.

What’s clear from this, is that the technology we’re experiencing today on company cars will be vastly different in the not to distant future.

It’s taking the ‘drudge’ strain off the driver, and making the cars safer – all of which will be welcome news to both company car drivers and their business car managers.
