A CAR the size of the Vauxhall Insignia at 99g/km CO2 seems pretty amazing to us.

But an Insignia with CO2 emissions below 95g/km and tax-busting credentials for small business owners and SME companies?

The new engine will have emissions below 95g/km, which means small fleets would be able to claim 100% first year capital write down allowances

Now that is something.

Hot on the heels of the new Vauxhall Insignia – the most tax-efficient car in its class  – comes news of another model with tax-breaking intentions.

Vauxhall aims to offer its new 1.6 diesel engine, first seen in the Zafira Sport Tourer  and due to be unveiled in the new Vauxhall Astra, in the Insignia.

The new engine, says Vauxhall, will have CO2 emissions below 95g/km, which means small businesses and SME small fleets would be able to claim 100% first year capital write down allowances on the Insignia.

It would be a significant car – not only would company car drivers benefit from reduced company car tax bills, but SMEs could benefit from improved cash flows on all purchased Insignias.

Vauxhall head of carline brand, Stuart Harris, said: “A Vauxhall Insignia with a first year allowances tax breaking engine would be nice to have, but won’t be here until 2015 at the earliest.

“The issue for us is that it would need to meet Euro 6 exhaust emissions, and that’s a base cost to us of £800, so that would have to be reflected in the price.”
