LEZ: VW incentives

Help with finance and deposits – but no scrappage deal from Volkswagen

VOLKSWAGEN Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) has responded rapidly to Ford’s London Low Emissions Zone scrappage offer – though its incentives look less sweeping than the market leader’s trade-in discounts.

Instead, VWCV’s incentives for London-based van drivers include deposit contributions towards its low-rate finance offers for new vans, and preferential servicing packages for used vehicles.

The London LEZ will be revised from January 3, 2012. From that date, it will include vans, pick-ups and other specialist conversions, weighing more than 1,205kg unladen up to a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kg, registered before January 1, 2002. Any vehicle affected must meet emissions standards to a minimum of Euro III.

The changes affect vans and pick-ups as well as camper vans, motorhomes and ambulances between 2,500kg and 3500kg GVW, and minibuses carrying more than eight passengers up to 5,000kg GVW. Non-compliant vehicles have to pay a £100 daily charge or risk a £500 penalty if their vehicles do not meet the rules.
