WHEN you’re self-employed, shopping around for breakdown cover is more essential than ever. As a self-employed professional, your means of transport can be crucial to your success. Here’s why as a self-employed professional you should shop around for your breakdown cover before opting for a policy:

Hidden additional costs

One of the worst things about being self-employed is that if you have a sick day or can’t work, then you don’t get paid. In relation to transport, if you can’t get out to your clients or customers then it’s really difficult to make any money so having the best breakdown cover possible means that you’ll be able to get back on the road as quickly as possible and in effect, be back making money again asap.

Anyone can break down

Never assume that you’ll not get stranded by the roadside. By going without breakdown cover as a self-employed person you’re risking more than just spending a few hours sat on the hard shoulder. If your vehicle breaks down it will cost in many different ways from paying for the expensive repairs to missing out on key business opportunities while without transport.

Every penny counts

When you’re self-employed each penny counts so being sure that you’re getting the best possible cover for your money is vital. Being quick to opt for a policy with one of the top providers might seem like the easy option but a lot of the time the policies offered aren’t as comprehensive as smaller companies and could end up with you losing out in the long run should you break down.

Hidden company charges

A lot of the big companies which people normally go to for breakdown cover have many hidden charges. These sorts of things can come as a nasty surprise when you do breakdown and need their help so make sure when shopping around you compare all the different deals companies are offering to find the best one for you.

Smaller companies, like Start Rescue, offer a much more comprehensive breakdown cover with national recovery and overnight accommodation.

By shopping around and reading the small print you’ll find fewer hidden charges and be able to negotiate a breakdown cover that works for you. Being self-employed often means a lot more travelling around the country to different places so a policy which ensures you can get cover wherever you are is really important.
