Verdict

The new A3 is good to drive, looks stylish and has a really sharp-suited cabin. It is a big all-round improvement over its predecessor. (More on page 2)

Audi A3 – three-door arrives first; five-door hatchback early in 2013

It has been to the gym and it shows. The car has shed weight, and this pays off in all-round better efficiency, including lower running costs and improvements in CO2 output that bring benefits in company car taxation liability for business users.

Audi has launched the three-door first, but the definitive A3 will be the five-door Sportback coming next spring. The 2.0-litre diesel is likely to be the big seller, but the sweet-running 1.6 diesel is also worth considering in a business car comparison, not least for its sub-100 g/km emissions.
