What is it?

New generation Porsche Boxster S is now here with more performance from its 3.4-litre engine, thanks to direct injection technology. Power goes up by 15hp to 310bhp – yet economy is no worse than the 2.9 manual model. PDK double-clutch transmission adds auto function or manual change via gearshift or wheel-mounted toggles.

What’s hot?

  • The driving experience is still as great as ever…
  • …only now even better with cracking engine update
  • Flat six boxster engine has beautifully linear power delivery…
  • …its crisp, deep engine note provides the sporting urgency
  • And all complimented by wonderfully direct and linear steering
  • You sit low in the car, so little buffeting…
  • …especially if you specify optional wind deflector
  • Emissions reduced to 221g/km CO2 with PDK auto…
  • …manual CO2 emissions are 223g/km
  • Lights package provides daytime LED running lights
  • Option of seat ventilation combined with seat heating
  • Launch Control with optional Sports Chrono Package Plus…
  • …provides 0-62mpg acceleration in 5.0 seconds

What’s not?

  • Desirable and necessary extras push up price hugely…
  • …so make sure you budget properly for Porsche ownership
  • Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)…
  • …makes ride painfully firm and unforgiving
  • Storage space at a premium
  • PDK auto takes edge off driver/car interface

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

The Porsche Boxster S has always taken Boxster driving to a new level. The latest incarnation is no different. The engine bark is crisp, urgent, intoxicating; the power delivery endless; and the precise steering a revelation for those who’ve lived on a diet of front-wheel drive cars. The PDK auto might be the ideal solution for urban drivers, but it takes away from the Boxster S some of the driving purity. Better opt for the manual and spend the money saved on the essential satnav with Porsche Communication Management 3.0 System.
