Winter tyres can be fitted long before the bad weather really kicks in

Battery

Battery problems like drop of charge or power can often occur in the cold weather, especially where batteries are older than five years. If you have a fleet of cars that are older than three years, it is worth checking the batteries at the start of the season at a local garage.

Bad weather staff management

Is that 200 mile away appointment on the day of a blizzard really so important that it can’t be rearranged? If not, it is worth considering sending your employee to see the client via public transport wherever possible. In particularly bad weather, if there is an option whereby any members of staff who don’t need to make the journey into the workplace and work from home, can do so.

Simon Wroe, marketing director at Lease4Less, said;

“For essential long journeys, we advise employees to add de-icer or antifreeze to the vehicle’s washer liquid to assist visibility when snow is falling.

“Making sure that they know never to try and defrost their car windscreens with boiling water (for pretty obvious reasons) is very important too, as is carrying anti-freeze and ideally storing their car in a garage overnight or covering it up.”
