Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCi 136PS Titanium X Pack
What is it?
Ford’s Johnny-come-lately entry into the compact SUV market – the Ford Kuga. But worth the wait.
A stylishly taut good-looker, the Ford Kuga 4×4 offers on-road finesse and and promises off-road prowess, too. It’s also the most economical SUV in its class.
Simple line-up means there’s only one diesel engine, but the choice of two trims: Zetec and this Titanium spec, fitted with the £2000 option X Pack (includes full leather and panoramic roof).
What’s hot?
- Those stylish good looks – brings real pizzaz into the sector
- High-up seating provides commanding view
- Firm and positive action of gearbox
- Panoramic roof floods interior with light
- Split tail gate (glass section or full door) for superior functionality
- Lowest CO2 emissions in the sector
- Punchy engine pulls well in lower gears
- Neat touches like the padded arm rest – which is recessed into the leading edge of driver’s door
- Rear seats fold flat to open up boot space
What’s not?
- That good fuel consumption is thanks to tall fifth and sixth gears – downside is poor in gear flexibility, so you need to change gear often
- Plenty of roll in corners
- Variable quality of some of interior fittings – some high-class, others cheap-looking
- Rear seat fold mechanism still a two-stage affair
Business Car Manager road test verdict
The Ford Kuga is the market leader for style. It also delivers an enjoyable drive with the lowest emissions – and hence best company car tax position. Which makes it a first class choice if you want a compact five-seater SUV as your company car.
Others to consider: Honda CR-V (more capacious, better spread of engine power); VW Tiguan (more premium position, less good on fuel).
