Value-for-money Steed brings Chinese cultural revolution to pick-up sector
The Great Wall Steed is far cheaper than most pick-ups

CHOOSING a pick-up truck for yourself can be a frustrating chore. A good place to start is usually by assessing your personal needs in a realistic way. Unless your work demands it, you’re not going to require a full-sized heavy-duty vehicle; you’ll probably benefit from having a compact truck, for instance. The world of commercial pickups is saturated with all kinds of vehicles, which doesn’t make it particularly easy for those who are looking for the perfect truck. And there are some interesting choices from the US, too. Here’s a selection available from both sides of the Atlantic.

Chevrolet Silverado

If you require space as well as comfort, look no further than the Chevrolet Silverado. The crew cab has 42 inches of legroom, 42 inches for headroom, 66 inches of shoulder room and 63 inches for hip room. The back seats have more space than this, albeit with reduced legroom. It’s a reliable truck that is fitted with the latest in safety technology. There are many engine options, but these are the top tier ones: the 6-litre V8 at 300HP, the 6.61-litre V8 at 360HP, or the 8.1-litre V8 at 340HP. Having a mid-level 5.3 V8 isn’t bad at all too, as you still get to experience the power of the engine. Just make sure you’ve got good silverado spark plugs, exhaust, and tuner to get the maximum performance out of the vehicle.

Dodge Ram 1500

Very few pickups actually deliver on comfort along with engine power. The Dodge Ram 1500 is one of the few you can trust to keep its promises. Its interiors are great, with loads of storage options and very comfortable seats. For those that want a heavy-duty truck that still moves fast, inquire about the Dodge Rams that come with the Hemi engine, which are purpose-built to provide high amounts of horsepower and torque.

Great Wall Steed

In terms of getting some bang for your buck, you can’t do any better than the Steed. Far, far cheaper than the rest of its peers, it’s ideal for those who want a sturdy 4×4 that’s going to do what’s necessary without breaking a sweat. Of course, it’s not just tough grit though – expect some surprisingly nice interiors, with leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity and several other perks. Upgrade to the Chrome or Tracker edition of the vehicle for more extras.

GMC Sierra

For those searching for the perfect lightweight solution, the GMC Sierra is your answer. Aimed at the contracting and professional market, GMC owners can expect the best customer care available, which explains their hard-core loyalty to the brand. The high quality and durable parts used in the Sierras are also highly prized by operators.
