New risks: Drivers may not be over the limit but they can still pose risks for companies under new legislation

The changing face of company car law and risk assessment are some of the subjects being covered in a free seminar at the BMW Group plant in Oxford next month.

Total Accident Management and TR Fleet are hosting the event on 6 July to help fleet managers and employers understand the new law.

The seminar will consist of a combination of talks, accident scenarios, group discussion sessions, and a tour of the factory, with guest speakers including Nigel Grainger, senior consultant at Fleet Risk Consultants and Ross Burrows, barrister-at-law at Motor Law Expert. The seminar is free to attend and will run from 9am until 3pm.

With the Corporate Manslaughter Act, which affects any company with a fleet of vehicles, irrespective of size, now having expanded to include grey fleet drivers (employees using their own vehicles for business purposes), no company can afford to ignore the safety of its employees while driving on company business.

The seminar aims to help employers fully understand the risks that face their business fleets today. Total will also be explaining the benefits of adopting Total DriveSecure – a service that helps companies manage the growing problems associated with grey fleet drivers, cash for car drivers and company car drivers.

Total’s operations director, Amanda Mullans, said, “The law is continually evolving and through speaking to employers on a daily basis, we have found many of them to be unaware of the changes and what risks it opens up for their fleets. Out of employers’ lack of knowledge and appetite to learn more, we designed an event to help them identify and bridge the risk gap, enabling their businesses to become fully compliant.”

Julie Boyd, managing director of TR Fleet, added, “We are confident that the benefits of Total DriveSecure will be of particular interest to all those attending.”
