THE 12 female employees selected by LeasePlan to take part in its Arctic Circle Baffin Island expedition have been preparing for their gruelling trip.

The training day at Iceland’s Warehouse in Swindon, Wiltshire, was supervised by expedition leader Debra Searle MVO MBE. It involved testing out expedition kits, erecting tents, pulling sledges and performing other critical tasks in freezing conditions.

The team will be trekking 100km across Baffin Island over 10-15 days in temperatures of -15 to -20 degrees Celsius

The LeasePlan Women’s Arctic Challenge is part of the company’s global initiative to challenge diversity.
Debra Searle MVO MBE, said;

“It’s almost impossible to prepare for the Arctic cold without sessions like this, so it’s essential  to put the team through their paces in this environment.”

HR Director at LeasePlan, Steve Moss, said:

“The generosity of partners such as Iceland has been fundamental in making sure the team are as prepared as they can be ahead of the expedition and provides an invaluable experience of just what effect -20C has on an individual both physically and mentally.”
