The CLA Shooting Brake retains the distinctive sweeping curved roofline of all previous CLS and CLA models but Mercedes claims it has squeezed in a bit more headroom compared with the four-door CLA.
Luggage capacity varies between 495 and 1354 litres depending on whether the rear seats are folded down.
Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, responsible for Marketing & Sales said “Like its big brother, the CLS Shooting Brake, the CLA Shooting Brake is targeted at active customers who are looking outside of the mainstream for a car that impresses with a high utility value.”
The initial engine line-up includes two diesels and three petrols, and 4MATIC all-wheel drive is available too. The CLA 200 CDI diesel, with an output of 136 PS, is the fuel-saver in the range; it’s expected to achieve a combined fuel consumption of about 72 mpg and CO2 emissions of 101g/km.
All cars have a start/stop function and are Euro 6-compliant. All-wheel drive will be available from the market launch, initially in the CLA 250 4MATIC and CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC. Diesel 4MATICS – the CLA 200 CDI 4MATIC and CLA 220 CDI 4MATIC – will follow in September 2015.
Separately, Mercedes is readying a CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake variant to be shown at next spring’s Geneva Motor Show.
