THE fact that buyers have been waiting 50 years to buy a Mustang hasn’t stopped their enthusiasm, as this year’s allocation of 1,200 cars has already sold out.
But with the 184g/km emission of the 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine slotted into the Mustang’s long nose, can it appeal to SME company car buyers? What about a Mustang on contract hire? We asked Ford UK chairman and managing director, Mark Ovenden, his thoughts.
“I haven’t got the exact breakdown of Mustang sales yet between retail and user chooser fleet buyers, but I would expect a good number to go out on contract hire – particularly with Ford Lease.
“Clearly we want to control the number of leases, so we can look after the residuals. The upshot of this, is that we’re not interested in any short-cycle business – or for a better term, mucky contract hire.
“The Mustang will not be offered on hefty terms like some contract vehicles are; I don’t envisage any significant discounts on it at all. We’re effectively sold out, if someone wants to fund it through contract hire, on to a corporate scheme that’s fine with us.
