New generation Porsche Boxster

Porsche Boxster

Porsche Boxster

What is it?

Latest version of Porsche’s Boxster model. The roadster’s 2.7-litre engine has been upgraded to 2.9-litres, which now develops 255hp – an increase of 10hp over the prior 2.7-litre model. There’s also a newly-designed nose and tail with new halogen headlights and LED tail lights at the rear, although you have to look closely to spot the differences. Boxster’s fabric roof retained.

What’s hot?

  • The driving experience is still as great as ever
  • Flat six boxster engine has beautifully linear power delivery…
  • …complimented by wonderfully direct and linear steering
  • Gearshift has muscular, engineered precision
  • (But make sure you specify £372 sports gearshift)
  • You sit low in the car, so little buffeting…
  • …especially if you specify optional wind deflector
  • Emissions reduced to 221g/km CO2 (214g/km for PDK auto)
  • Lights package provides daytime LED running lights
  • Option of seat ventilation combined with seat heating

What’s not?

  • Desirable and necessary extras push up price very quickly…
  • Avoid Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)…
  • …the standard ride is supple but firm – exactly right for UK roads
  • …sport setting is race car hard and painfully unforgiving
  • Storage space at a premium

The Porsche Boxster remains a wonderful all-round roadster. Quick, exciting and entertaining to drive, it turns every journey into a great event. And the sound of that engine provides every journey with an unforgettable sound track, too.
