The new SEAT Toledo may lack excitement but few affordable cars offer as much in the way of space, quality and practicality.

The limited choice of engines will restrict the Toledo’s appeal, but find the right one and it’s hard to beat for quality and space

SEAT, though, is setting the bar low and is talking up instead the prospects of the next Leon, which it says will out-sell the Toledo five to one.

One reason for that reticence isn’t hard to find; the Toledo is bought in from Skoda but the Leon is SEAT’s core model, designed by the Spanish manufacturer and assembled at its own factory.

The limited choice of engine and trim combinations will dent the Toledo’s appeal for some business customers – but if you can find a model that suits you and that fits your company car tax allowance, it’s a real company car bargain.
