Handling should be sharper, thanks to measures such as a new speed-sensitive electric power steering system, a slightly lower centre of gravity, a stiffer front sub-frame and new knuckle joints.
There’s plenty of novelty under the bonnet as well.
The main development is the arrival of a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
Vauxhall thinks it’s smoother than other engines of this type, thanks to the inclusion of a balancer shaft. The 1.0-litre will be available with either 90 or 115 PS outputs and meets the latest tough Euro 6 emissions standards, helped by the introduction of a stop/start system, although Vauxhall isn’t releasing precise emissions and fuel consumption figures at the moment.
Three further petrol engines – a 1.2, a 1.4 and a turbocharged 1.4 – will also be available, alongside an improved Euro 6 compliant 1.3 CDTi diesel engine. And there’s more yet on the new Corsa.
