Check fluids
It’s wise to regularly check your fluid levels.
Check the oil once every week or two and before long journeys. Oil helps to keep moving parts lubricated and running smoothly.
Dirty oil or not enough oil can lead to overheating or even engine seizure, so get it changed regularly.
You’ll also want to check your brake fluid. Your brakes contain hydraulic fluid; not enough and there won’t be enough pressure to apply the brakes effectively.
Keep your radiator topped up with coolant to keep your engine from overheating. When the thermostat detects that the engine is getting to[HM1] hot, it sends a signal to the pump to push more coolant through the system. Not enough coolant can lead to serious engine damage.
Change your filters
Your car has a number of filters that prevent dirt from entering the system and clogging it up.
There’s an air filter, an oil filter and a fuel filter amongst others.
You should change them regularly as recommended in the owner’s manual in order to prevent the build-up of deposits which can be corrosive or cause engine inefficiency.
