Tyres
Keep a tyre pressure gauge handy and check the pressure regularly.
Drastic changes in temperature can cause tyre pressure to fall.
Under-inflated tyres cause greater friction with the road service, forcing the engine to work harder and use more fuel.
You’ll also want to periodically check the tread depth.
Uneven wear could suggest a wheel alignment issue or a suspension problem.
Parking
It’s best to park your car in a garage if possible to keep it out of the elements. Prolonged exposure to the sun will dull the finish over time and rain can cause rusting.
Avoid parking under trees as birds will make a mess of your car.
The acids in bird faeces can slowly corrode the paintwork so clean it immediately. But don’t scrub it as you’ll scratch the surface; apply a damp cloth for a few minutes before wiping clean.
Sadly this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to car maintenance, but following these suggestions should help to keep your vehicle in good nick for a bit longer.
Remember, your vehicle is an asset, so handle it with care!
