“Later on in the year we’ll be able to discuss key statistics about the new Clubman, but they are up there with the segment leaders in every sort of stat you can think of. Whether up against A3, A-Class, 1-Series or Golf, it will have the credentials to take them on in terms of the key stats.”

“As the MINI brand evolves, Clubman is one of the key cars for us.

“It is often thought now that there’s this huge overlap between five-door, Countryman and potentially the Clubman.  When you see them in the metal, they are very, very different propositions.

the Clubman will be marketed very much as a stand-alone model. It is very, very different

“Everything from the proportions, to the functionality and the way we use that space, finally in terms of style, the new Clubman from a design point of view, breaks with many MINI design conventions in a respectful way.

Things like the vertical rear lights on current MINIs, you see a major twist on that with the barn doors and how the lights run across it – the concept you saw a year and a half ago at Geneva is very close to the production car.

“The very minimalist interior is also carried over, although it is logical progression from the F56 and F55, but it takes it in a fresher, timeless and uncluttered direction. Design is right at the forefront of this car, so again this comes through in who it will appeal to. Clubman is quite different from what might be a more practical, rational decision process for Countryman and five-door – although they’re in different segments.
