New Clubman highlights:
- Longer and more practical with six-doors
- More than a replacement, in fact an entirely different proposition
- Designed to attract new customers to the brand
- Key rivals include the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series, Mercedes A-class and the Volkswagen Golf
- Breaks with many MINI design cues
- Minimalistic interior
SO you thought the Countryman SUV was going to be the biggest MINI – wrong! As it’s over 4 metres long, with six-doors, there’s no doubt the next Clubman estate is going to be even bigger.
Business Car Manager recently caught up with a MINI spokesperson, who in a surprisingly candid conversation, gave us further insight of what MINI hopes is going to be its new SME company car champion.
“The assumption is that the Clubman is a replacement model, but it’s much more than that. It is an altogether different proposition, on everything from the architecture and proportions of the car, down to where it sits in the model hierarchy.
“In terms of customers coming out of the old R55 Clubman, the five-door hatch is the car for them – we’re already seeing them migrating into that.
“The new Clubman really will attract all-new customers – people who really haven’t considered the MINI brand before in the premium compact class. It’s a proper estate with six-doors and that makes a real difference.
