All new Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi car review – lighter, sleeker, altogether better

As well as looking so very sleek, the new Pug has shed the equivalent of 2 adults in weight and it really shows in performance, handling, and running costs.

All in all, a much better package – but it’s worth knowing that new engines are planned for the spring…

Business Car Manager verdict

The Peugeot 308 is a much better package than its predecessor.

You expect a Peugeot’s  ride quality to be excellent and it is. There is also better carrying capacity in the boot than a Golf for example – though at a cost to legroom in the back.

And the engine provides good low cost motorway mile eating ability and relatively good company car tax figures.

But our verdict has to be: wait.

In addition to an all new 3-cylinder petrol engine, there is a new diesel engine arriving for the Peugeot 308 in the spring that will deliver significantly lower company car tax rates, better fuel economy – and for those SMEs that prefer to buy their company cars – 100% first year capital allowances (click here for more on the new engines).

That new 82g/km and 91mpg diesel engine has to be the Peugeot 308 for business use.
